Getting to Southampton by train
Southampton Central is a busy station hub with services provided by South Western Railway, Great Western, Cross Country and Southern. A shuttle bus operates every 30 minutes between the station and the ferry terminals (see footer).
Integrated ticketing: Both East Cowes and West Cowes are part of the national rail network. This means you can buy a single, day return or period return fare from any train station ticket office, rail appointed travel agent, self-service ticket machine or train company telesales service which includes ferry travel between Southampton & East Cowes or Southampton & West Cowes.
South Western Railway operate frequent services on the line between Weymouth and London Waterloo (Clapham Jct, Woking, Basingstoke, Winchester, Southampton Airport, Southampton Central, Bournemouth Poole, Weymouth). Approximate journey time between Southampton Central and London Waterloo is 75 minutes. Note: Eurostar services to and from Brussels, Paris and Lille operate to/from London St. Pancras station.
Cross Country Trains operate between Scotland, the North, Midlands and Birmingham; Great Western Railway run from South Wales through Bristol and Salisbury; South Western Railway run services from Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth and Southern Railway provide services to Portsmouth and Brighton.
Arriving in Southampton by Public Transport
The FREE Quayconnect Shuttle Bus connects Southampton's Central Rail Station (short walk from the coach station) to Red Funnel's ferry ports for IoW ferry sailings to East and West Cowes. Alternatively, there is a taxi rank at the station for the 5-8 minute journey to the ferry terminals. It's about a 12-15 minute walk.
