Modern Slavery Statement

Introduction
Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 Red Funnel is required to publish a Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement for each financial year, setting out the steps Red Funnel has taken to address the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in the operations and within the supply chain.

The Red Funnel Group operates ferries to the Isle of Wight 365 days year, carrying in the region of 3.4m passengers and 0.9m vehicles every year.

Approach to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
Red Funnel has a number of core values; "Professional, Caring and Friendly, and Ambitious". Red Funnel is committed to conducting business with integrity and in an ethical and socially responsible way.

Red Funnel has a number of policies that assist in the approach to the identification of modern slavery risks and the steps to be taken to prevent slavery and human trafficking in the operations. For example, a Whistle blowing policy and a CSR Policy Statement. As well as these policies and related training, awareness of modern slavery issues has been raised by staff communication around the business explaining:-

  • The basic principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015;
  • How employers can identify and prevent slavery and human trafficking;
  • What employees can do to flag up potential slavery or human trafficking issues to the relevant parties within the organisation; and
  • External help available eg. through the National Modern Slavery Helpline.

Supply Chain
Red Funnel sources goods and materials from many parts of the World. The aim is to establish and maintain a competitive, reliable and sustainable supply chain, and to always act in an ethical and socially responsible manner when dealing with suppliers. Red Funnel has a Code of Conduct for Suppliers. This Code of Conduct applies to all suppliers of goods and services to Red Funnel.

Red Funnel is committed to ensuring that suppliers adhere to the highest standard of ethics. Suppliers are required to demonstrate that they provide safe working conditions where necessary, treat workers with dignity and respect, and act ethically and within the law in their use of labour.

Responsibility
The Board has overall responsibility for ensuring that legal and ethical obligations relating to Slavery and Human Trafficking are met. This statement looks at the actions taken by the Red Funnel Group to address the requirements of the 2015 Modern Slavery Act.

The statement has been approved by the Red Funnel Board on the 21st June 2018.
